Forums like this are a much better way to communicate and keep track of a discussion.

Also mailing lists can spam your email account if left unattended for a few days.

Then why is it that most places (inlcuding msdn and all gcc related sites) use mailing lists?

the mailing lists are all hands off thay get set up and let run
and thay need alot less computer power to run

any isp account can foward the mail out to a list ( thay use almost no bandwidth)

Browser is not a very good client software for writing messages - it is not very convenient.
