7.10 is the version of ml.exe
masmv8 is the masm package maintained by hutch
Download masmv8 from hutch site at http://www.masm32.com/

Thanks for the clarification. I had seen posts about MASM v8 but now I see that they must have been referring to MASM32 v8 (which--I think--is still MASM 6.14). Thanks again for the help.

In VS.NET writeups MS never mentions MASM updates. I used MASM 7.0 because it came with VS.NET 2002 and saw no difference from 6.15. I just installed VS.NET 2003 today and don't expect to see any real difference with 7.10. I use VS.NET for C# rather than C++ and it's C++ that needs MASM. I assume the differences are all on for C++ and debugger interfaces.

one difference that i know of is that it can do more instructions; 6.14 won't assemble some sse instructions like "movdqa" or "movdq2q", although it will do some others e.g. "movaps" and "shufps".
