So I'm looking through the PSDK docs on the CreateNamedPipe API and I notice, to my dismay:

Requirements

Windows NT/2000/XP: Included in Windows NT 3.1 and later.
Windows 95/98/Me: Unsupported.

I wasn't happy about that as I like my applications to work on all platforms. But then towards the top, where it talks about the lpName parameter I see:

Windows 95/98/Me: The pipe name cannot include a colon.

I don't have Windows 9x, so I cannot test it. Does anybody know? Is it supported or not?

Windows Me/98/95: Named pipes cannot be created.

But

Windows Me/98/95: Pipe names cannot include a colon. Therefore, if this pipe will be used from a Windows Me/98/95 client, do not include a colon in the name.

You cannot create a named pipe from Win 9x but you can access to a named pipe from Win 9x. The pipe is created on a server, and you, over the network, access to the pipe from your win9x client
