So for a final release i should find a Win2000 or XP machine and run the GuidGen.exe on them....?

you definitely shouldn't use GUIDs generated on win9x...

Actually it shouldn't matter as long as the guids are unique. In contrast there are advantages to generating consecutive guids, i.e. for a single application:
Platform SDK:
COM frequently must map GUIDs (IIDs and CLSIDs) to some arbitrarily large set of other values. As an application developer, you can help speed up such searches, and thereby enhance system performance, by generating the GUIDs for your application as a block of consecutive values.
