Is there anyway to replace the default windows task manager?

Yes, the NVidias drivers can do that (don't know exactly how to activate it, iirc it's via multiple screens/desktops). I guess hooking some system call is the way?

Humm, I think it might be built into the shell (ie, explorer.exe) - at least most custom shells for windows replace the default alt-tab.
