Hm, well, since the USB Host Controller generates interrupts, I guess it still sounds reasonable - as long as the HC doesn't require CPU time but works autonomously.
the old dos did provide some programs called intrlink and intrsrvr (i think) for establishing serial network between two pcs. i once needed it, used it, and it worked. the laptop had no floppy drive and it was the only way i have to transfer data.
it was slow though, but i was happy.
of course if you ve got no floppy to boot under dos it cant help.
but as some said, i think windows does the same.
