Just a quick question - does anyone have the address of a good tutorial on using SSE/SSE2 from assembly ? A search engine just turns up endless pages with passing references, but nothing in detail

Intel.com has a number of good examples.

if you go to the developer side of intel.com they have computer based tutorials. I did one a number of years ago for both SSE and SSE2 and MMX. The ones I did also graphically showed you what happened to registers for different commands. So you can better visualize.

Actually, I wrote a tutorial and demonstrations on using the SSE and SSE2 instructions. Its in the "tutorials" section on my "Go" tools web site under "advanced". I should have mentioned this before.
