Linux sucks, and it's spelled "rumor".
It is nice to see trolls from the bottom feeders of the OS market place here at the Win32ASM community :) What is the Linux market share these days ? Somewhere around 4% of the global desktop market last I heard with MacIntosh slightly larger and Windows representing more than 90%. Ofcourse they are predicting it to rise to 7% by 2008 so if you are willing to wait 3 years it will grow from almost nothing to virtually nothing. Outside of a rather vocal community of trollers and messageboard spammers Linux is pretty insignificant. If you want to make money you can always go after the miniscule niche markets, but odds are better with Windows.

:-D :-D :-D

The point is that there is no competition to Windows :), that is bad. But you can still use Linux for some things (not play games with DX), like Hiro say there are things like the Player that havent watched a good app (in the way that can play a lot of diferent formatts, easy use, and othr things...), but you can still use Linux for some things, for example, a cyber cafe, for setup a little company, you only need to know the enviroment for use it. Pheraphs yes the quality of the programms for Windows is best than the quality of the programms for Linux, but you ca get some money doing and learning it.
By the way, there need exist a nice alternative and by the way, not only an alternative but something great and new :), that can get 45%, 45%, and 10% for the others ones.

There will *always* be exceptions to the rule. The point is that far fewer companies will be making money writing Linux software and the companies themselves most likely will not become as large as if they were writing the same software for Windows.
If someone wants to go into business for themselves and *expects* to be profitable, writing Linux software may not be the best route to go, depending on how much *risk* they are willing to take. I've said this in the past and many are quick to point out Ximian. Okay, so point them out. And how did they achieve their greatest wealth? Novell bought them and are already profitable from their own software / windows software and this only complimented them. But, does anyone know, I don't, how much money are they losing by trying to keep the mindshare they do by making that business decision?
Anyway, some will be profitable and others won't be. For example, do we really know whether theKompany is breaking even or if they are making lots of money or barely enough to stay afloat? Same could be said for Windows software makers, but most Windows software makers have a significantly larger market and broader oppurtunities.
So whats your point? How objective are you, really? Go conduct a full analysis and report back your findings and then we'll discuss it, until this, I smell troll.
Thanks,
_Shawn

I saw something I disagree with so I sed so and I gave examples to back up what I'm saying
SO how is this a troll thread ? this is a forum isen't it the rules DO allow me to disagree with something and say so don't thay ?
how can anyone expect to have a free exchange of ideas when no one is allowed to disagree ?

Define Troll
Considering the definition of it, you sir, must be one of them. The problem, you see is not in the wording, but in the context, Donkey tried to give you a subtle hint by saying "win32asm" Messageboard... but still you can't refrain from posting pro linux propaganda every once in a while.
I once said that the most important command to know when dealing with Linux is "fdisk /mbr" - so that's my 2cts.

Hi rob.rice,
I sort of meant that "tongue in cheek", just to get your hair standing up (that's why I put in the smile). I like the Linux vs Microsoft Windows arguments. And personally I welcome some competition on the desktop, I just don't think that Linux has what it takes to compete. Certainly not if you are thinking of selling software.
> a subtle hint by saying "win32asm" Messageboard... but still
JimmyClif,
please read the forum titles *before* posting such stuff. It is:
>> Allocate some space for your *non*-Win32ASM related stuff here <<
so rob.rice is absolutely in the right place.
BTW, the rest of your post isnt much better either.

Nun, hoer mir mal zu mein Freund :)
Alright, I was bored at work and wanted to smack rob a little around. Occasionally those linux followers are just too much in your face... You know, the kind who invades Windows related messageboards and just post in offtopic about how c00l and l33t their linux box is ;)
I actually do think that a very useful command of dealing with linux is "fdisk /mbr" :) just a useful bit of advice from me.

JimmyClif,
Du kannst ueber Linux sagen was Du willst, das bleibt voellig Dir ueberlassen.

Japheth , mon cher confrere,
Rummueffeln kannst du daran so lange du willst.
Man kann mit mir sehr einfach reden und besserer Resultate erziehlt man ueber den
Button. Aus allen Antworten, meine herauszunehmen und mir dabei oeffentlich attituede zu geben - was und wie du was nicht magst - bringt in den meisten Faellen ueberhaupt nix.
Klaro, Kollege?

JimmyClif,
Japheth
PS: Danke fuer den tollen "fdisk /mbr" Ratschlag!

Hi BogdanOntanu,
sorry for not complying with the rules (please read my signature!). Regretably the topic JimmiClif and me are discussing is something that cannot be done in English. I would suggest you to ignore this thread.

Bogdan,
That German dude is right, we just had a little indifference. I'll hit Japheth with a trout and a pm instead :p

I guess that's why most people don't use their real name on forums ;) Maybe that's not you, but it surely expresses someones feelings. :)
