Hi there,

is it possible, to define own "macros" inside XHTML using a custom XML like declaration of a tag?

Example:
I have a ASCII art picture, with tons of <span style="color:#123445">10010</span> tags. I'd like to declare a "macro" tag or even an abbreviation, like

XML_DEFINE span AS x
XML_DEFINE style AS y

<x y="color:#123445">10010</x>

I read a whole book on xml but now don't remember much since I'm working on other things, but here is what I do know:  xhtml is xml, so most of the things you can do with xml apply.  I don't know about the macros you mention.  You can create your own DTD and define your own tags.  A lot of this info is available on the w3.org site.
