Hello everybody,

I'm trying to open the registry key HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Protected Storage System Provider\S-1-5-21-507921405-1960408961-725345543-1003. This always results in ERROR_ACCESS_DENIED.

I decided to modify privileges by enabling "SeTakeOwnershipPrivilege". I use these api's and return values indicate privilege has successfully been enabled:

GetCurrentProcess
OpenProcessToken
LookupPrivilegeValue
AdjustTokenPrivileges

I still get access denied error. Anybody know what I'm missing here or have other ideas on how/why that registry key not opening?

best regards,

maybe you need to disable protected storage service before accessing such keys.

Thanks for your reply arafel.  I disabled protected storage service but still access denied.
