You have to get to ring-0 somehow to get at the video memory. However, are you sure you want to do that?

Isn't that why Microsoft developed DirectX? So programmers could have control over video memory? And of course I could be completely wrong!

yes that is true DirectX gives you direct access to video memory... at least until version 7 it did .....version 8 does no more ...but you can allways use lower version of interfaces. so: use DirecX :) while you still can
