I recently installed a VB package and it changed the icon used for the files in explorer.exe for .asm files.

The icon is pretty neat.

What I would like to learn is:

Can I extract it?

Will it disappear if I remove the VB Express?

Most likely, yes it will be gone when you uninstall the program.  They are either in the VB Expres exe or some vb express dll.  Sure you can extract em, use any icon editor... Resource Hacker.... or you can easily change the icons for any file type and see the icons in exe, dlls and other files with my File Type Editor  ;)

And to figure out where the icons are located, check the file association part of the Registry: HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.asm in your case. It should be pretty obvious how stuff there is organized.
