I'm new to assembly and win32api programming, and I was hoping someone could tell me what the easiest way to grab small blocks of memory is.

globalalloc function or the heap functions

Yes !
You will find some examples and more information here !
btw : GlobalAlloc has been somewhat superseded by the Heap functions... they takes less arguments, so less room in the exe file, but a small procedure can do as well as GlobalAlloc (I presume GlobalAlloc internally warps to GetProcessHeap + HeapAlloc... never debugged it to be sure, though).

It does, readiosys - I already checked it out :). And yep, for small
allocation amounts, HeapAlloc and friends is probably the way to
go - unless you have very specific needs and want to manage memory
allocation yourself.
