KetilO, nice outline. One caveat is that most of the time when the document say 'Macro' you mean 'Keyboard Macro' not MASM Macro. :) Also, I still don't know how to pass the project name to NMAKE on the command line. ;) The module build thingie is really cool - worked like a charm to build Thomas' PNGlib.

I can see the macro confusion, i'll fix that.
The problem with the project file is that it is asigned to the value 0. 0 is also used as a special case where you dont want a file.
It is clearly a mistake from me to asign the project file to 0, but it is too late to do anything about that.
The only solution I can see is to also asign the project file to 11.

KetilO, nice doc but U could add some info about .RAP files... it's not so hard to guess what is what and what it does but still... for example i can get to work section

It is not very clear but you find masm.ini documented in the section Assembler.ini, where Assembler is for masm, tasm or fasm.
