MY brain is officially frozen... Hints Suggestions?~!?

Suppose that FH contains the file handle of file open for write and that Date is the address of a byte string of the form MM/DD/YY containing today?s date. Write assembly codes to write date into the current file at the file's current position?

I hope this isnt a 'prettied up' I need someone to do my homework post? Is it?

Would DOS int's be preferable? In TASM? ;)
(Most teachers like to have the hand-in in this format)

If im wrong, my fullest appologies. What OS are your aiming for here? This can easily be done in one api...

this is on windows on tasm32 yes DOS ints are preferable

if this is for windows then a simple WriteFile would do it.
If you want DOS ints then get Ralph Brown's interupt list and look up the interupt for file io

... ahh, secrets out....

Last hint from me, look up Kudos' suggestion on the MSDN, and forget the DOS int's if this is a win32 app ;)

I'm not that familiar how the code would look like using the writefile would it look like?

it would look like any typical homework assignment

just go to and look for CreateFile, ReadFile, WriteFile, CloseHandle, SetFilePointer

I thought of doing the same, but i held back, seeing im a mod and all, i thought it would be inappropriate... but i was sooooooooo tempted

Do you think hez punching em in with debug at the moment?
Posted on 2002-05-24 22:36:13 by NaN
somehow I very much doubt it

Im sure it would be frustrating... the real surprise would be doing a Hex dump of it when finished (hint hint, Froost)
